he was a businessman, merchant, explorer, and cartographer. He was intrested in sailing when he was introduced to ships as a merchant. Amerigo Vespucci is important because he was one of the early explorers of the New World
He is important for demonstrating that the world wasn't Asia but a previously unknown fourth continent. At first, the name of America was only meant to apply to South America, but later on, both continents of America became known by his name.
He encountered Africa and he had 2 ships with 4 voyages. He sailed for Spain. He sailed on the western coastline of Africa. His significance was to find treasure it wasn't really important they just wanted journey. First voyage Vespucci left 1504 to publish a letter to be an account by himself written to Soderini. He left Spain in may 1497 and returned in october 1498. Second voyage about 1499-1500 Vespucci joined an expedition in the service of Spain with Alonso De Ojeda as the fleet commander. At the invitation of King Manuel 1 of Portugal, Vespucci was the observer in several voyages that explored the east coast of south America between 1499-1502. Third voyage which is the last certain voyage of Vespucci was led by Goncalo Coelho in 1501-1502 in the service of.In 1503 Vespucci sailed in Portuguese service again to Brazil, but this expedition failed to make new discoveries. Departing from Lisbon the fleet sailed first to cape Verda where they met two of Pedro Alvares Cabrel's ships returning from India.Fourth voyage not much was discovered on his last voyage in 1503-1504 or even where it actually took place. History also says that when vespucci found America they said that the new world was not connected to the old world which meant that America was then known for a fourth single continent. In 1508, KingFerdinand made Vespucci chief navigator of Spain at a huge salary and commissioned him to found a school of navigation, in order to standardize and modernize navigation techniques used by Iberian sea captains then exploring the world. Vespucci even developed a rudimentary, but fairly accurate method of determining longitude (which only more accurate chronometers would later improve upon).
The expeditions became widely known in Europe after two accounts attributed to Vespucci were published between 1502 and 1504.He died from an unknown use.
